Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Hi, I am a recent law graduate interested in practicing employment law (plaintiffs' side litigation) in California. How do I get my foot in the door in this job market? What should I be reading? I went to law school in NYC so I do not have access to a career center that has local connections. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you for showing an interest in our world of plaintiff's employment law. . There are many lawyers who are willing to defend the corporations. But not enough of us who are willing to fight for the little guy.

More important than anything you can read (you've done enough of that in law school) is getting involved with employee rights organizations to make contacts and learn about activities that may interest you. You should bookmark websites for organizations such as the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA), the California Employment Lawyers Association (CELA) or workplacefairness.org. to see what plaintiff's employment lawyers are involved with for judicially and legislatively. You will also find members of these organizations who are active in the practice and may be in a position to get you started with your career.

Good luck.

I also strongly advise you to join and become involved with employee rights organizations, especially CELA. Practicing Plaintiffs-side employment law is extremely rewarding in and of itself, and the close-knit and supportive community of Plaintiffs employment lawyers makes it all the more enjoyable. Please feel free to contact my law firm at [email protected] or (213) 536-4236. My law partner or I would be more than happy to chat with you about our field.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
