Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Recently I emailed a former boss to ask him for the contact information of the person who could verify my previous employment there. His reply to me was that he had no record of me ever working at that company.

Just this past week, a third party agency who was verifying my previous employment there contacted him and he again denied me ever working at that company. Because of this, I lost out on a good paying job.

My question is what legal recourse if any do I have in this situation.

--Thanks in advance

If the employer lied about you not working there, thereby preventing you from obtaining employment, you have remedies under common law and an anti-blackballing statute (Labor Code section 1050). Consult with an employment lawyer in your area to discuss the evidence you have to prove your case and assess the damages you suffered, assuming you can hold the employer liable.
