Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I was recently fired from my job after 7 months of working there. My position required me to attend several technology specific training classes and obtain the related certifications. When I signed my contract with the company, I signed a page that stated I would repay the company the cost of training and associated fees (flights, hotels etc.) whether I voluntarily leave OR I am fired within a year. When they let me go, they handed me my final paycheck along with the bill (which was 8x the amount on the paycheck) and the page in the contract I signed stating I would repay them.
