Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I have recently made a complaint to my Human Resources Dept of my company against my manager. As a result I have a meeting tomorrow with them. My complaint was that my boss told my coworkers that I had a STD; which is totally false. Even if true would be privilege and none of anyone's business. I had scabies and he told them it was a STD. Now people think I have a STD and I live in a small city and word travels fast. My reputation is damaged because of his false statement. He even went as far to tell a girl that I was talking to to get checked. As to assume we were sexually active, which we were not. My question is simple, should I talk it out with HR or seek an attorney? One of my professors told me the damage is done and no talk would remedy the situation. I am scared that I will be fired, and my coworkers will never look at me the same. To be clear this is a very well known national restaurant chain.

You should discuss the matter with HR. If they don't make the manager stop his/her offensive comments, contact an employment law attorney. You may have a case for defamation.
