Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I recently received a request from my former employer in the mail. It stated that they overpaid me on my last check by about $175. They are now asking me to mail them the payment. I have not worked there for over a month now. Do I legally have to pay them back?

Determine if their calculations are correct. If not, then you shouldn't pay. If you were overpaid, then you are not entitled to keep the funds, as they were not earned.
