Legal Question in Employment Law in California

hi, I recently started housecleaning for a local business here and I was wondering who is responsible for mileage and fuel costs. I drive my own vehicle from house to house in excess of 40-80 miles in one day, aprox. 200 miles a week. Am I supposed to get some kind of subsistance from my emplorer or do I just get to claim it on my taxes?

If the driving is on duty and the employer derives a benefit, which seems to be the case as you are driving from customer to customer, the employer is generally liable for mileage. You should be recording your mileage and expenses for a reimbursement claim in detail including the addesses of your destionations and times fo arrival.

There are signifincant penalites for non-compliance enforeceable before the Labor Commissioner or in a court action.
