Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Rehab director spending workers' money

Our company is very generous in giving lunch money for workers having a meeting or in-service during lunch time.

I am working at a new facility w/the company and workers tell me they have never had any food brought in (unsaid, the rehab director is pocketing the money)

Last month we had a meeting after lunch, lasted an hour, and still were required to finish all our treatments w/out working overtime.

Is there anything illegal about the above 2 points?

Re: Rehab director spending workers' money

It is not clear from your question if the workers are missing their lunch or working through lunch. If so, yes there is something wrong with this. Employees must be provided with no less than a 30 minute, uninterrupted meal period for every 5 hours worked. The employer does not have to provide the lunch, however.

If the Director is pocketing the meal money, this is a matter between him and his employer. Make sure you know all the facts before you decide whether to inject yourself into this potential conflict.
