Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Religious conflicts with work

I have an employee who attends bible study classes after work hours, but during a time period she is subject to calls due to the distance she works from the main office. She is claiming religious excuses for a period of 3-6 hours excluding her from subjectations to call-out. Does current labor laws allow for this exclusion, or am I on safer grounds denying her exclusions for her bible study class?

Re: Religious conflicts with work

Employees have the right to ask for reasonable accommodations for religious reasons. For example, it would be reasonable for an employee to ask not to work from Friday night to Saturday night, due to their observing the Sabbith. You would have to show that your accommodating her request would cause undue hardship to your company. The safe route would certainly be to accommodate her, especially since this is after work hours.
