Legal Question in Employment Law in California

relocation expenses payback

My company relocated me from OR to CA and I signed an employment stating that I would pay back my relocation expenses if I quit or got terminated within 2 yrs.

Am I now obligated to pay back if I quit within 2 yrs?

The contract is pretty clear. If you quit within two years, you should pay back the expenses. This is a typical provision, considering the circumstances.

So, the answer theoretically is yes. On a more practical level, some companies go after their former employees for those expenses and some don't bother, depending upon the company's philosophy and the amount in question.
