Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Hi,
I am doing research for my best friend. She has come to the end of her pregnancy leave. They have paid her wages and her medical while she was out. She is torn as to whether she wants to continue work or become a stay at home mother. She works for a large multinational firm.
My question is, what is her obligation to the company regarding how long she must return to work for, in order not to have to reimburse the company for the time off?
Is this policy set by the employer or is there an applicable law?
Thank you.

Hello,
There are no laws on such obligations, and any obligation should be outline in the company's policies (i.e. employee handbook, etc...) These terms are usually highly negotiable. She should call and informally discuss this with a manager who is authorized to make decision on this, and chances are they will let it go without much trouble.
Thanks,
