Upon return to work after injury, can an employer cut wages?

Upon return to work on modified duty, after an permanent injury, my employer cut my wages by 20%. Is it legal in the state of CA to arbitraily just cut someones livelyhood? Is there anything or anyone that can help me to get my wages back?
