Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I am a RN ( in California) and will be drug tested as part of a pre-employment physical, does it matter that I am currently taking Dextrostat which has been prescribed by my physcian for medical benifit ( I have active prescription) . I am worried because this drug is a schedule 2 level drug. I know this will make me test positive for amphetimines. Can they fail me if it is prescribed to me and it is the only thing that pops up?

If you are taking this medication for a serious medical condition or disability, you can request the employer to reasonably accommodate your disability by allowing you to take prescribed medication, as long as taking it does not cause an undue hardship to the employer, such as putting someone in jeopardy. This would require an open dialogue between you and your employer.

If you have doubts about how to handle it, you should consult with an employment law attorney for advice.
