Legal Question in Employment Law in California

salaried employee

I am salaried employee for a fitness company. I also teach aerobics classes for the same company outside of my regular job descritpion and regular working hours. I have been told that when I teach aerobics classes they will not pay me for them because I am a salaried employee but teaching these classes is a separate job than the one I am paid for. Can they do this? I have also had to teach classes of 60 people without a microphone cause me to scream putting stress on my vocal cords and watching the safety of the members be compromised. Is there any action I can take?

Re: salaried employee

From the information you give, it sounds like you might have a valid complaint against the company for wages, and, perhaps, overtime. I would want to talk with you in more detail and review your agreements iwth the company -- as well as have a good understanding of the work you do, and the amount of control exercised by the company over that work. Feel free to contact on my private email. Good luck.
