Legal Question in Employment Law in California

salaried employee laws?

I have worked @ an establishment for 8yrs with the salary status of an employee paid on salary. Out of that salary nearly half is deducted for the rent on a room. No medical, sick leave, vacation or benefits of any kind. But the employer and I are under no written contract until .. I was presented with a contract today. Some points are valid.. but now they want me to pay them rent if I am sick, They want me on call 24 hrs and I already work 6 days a week. There is more and it is unbelievable. Do you have any advice?
