Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Are Salaried non-exempt/exempt docked for calling in sick?

What are the laws regarding an Office Supervisor who is paid a Salary calls in sick and is asked if wanting to use a vacation day to make up for the sick day. otherwise my check would be 8 hrs short. I don't punch in or out. Are salaried employees paid the same whether they work 72hrs or 90 hours. based on an every other week payperiod?
