Legal Question in Employment Law in California

salary & overtime hours

My father is on salary at a local auto-body repair shop. He comes in early, and is _suppposed_ to be off work at 4:00 P.M. At about 3:55, his boss starts giving him an excess of things to do, and he regulary is not able to leave when he is supposed to; working many days 11 to 11.5 hours per day. Isn't there some sort of law that should stop his boss from taking advantage of him like this?

Re: salary & overtime hours

Your father may be entitled to overtime for the hours he works over 40 hours in a workweek. He should file a claim with the office of the California Labor Commissioner.
