Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Sick Leave and The Use of Vacation Time

My employer (a large Pharmaceutical CO)has stated that there is no sick leave allowable time off. All employees who are ill for less than 4 days are required to use their vacation time. I understand that CA does not require an employer to provide sick leave. It appears to me that different managers within this company allow their direct employees to just take time off, while others are enforcing the vacation time rule. I have 2 small children, prior to the acquisition we were allowed 10 days of sick leave. What rights do I have?

Re: Sick Leave and The Use of Vacation Time

Depending on the size of the company, there are a variety of laws that require an employer to allow an employee to take time off for such things as a serious illness of their children or even to attend school functions. That doesn't mean the employer must pay the employee for that time off. If you believe that this employer is applying its leave policies in a discriminatory manner, you should have your case reviewed by an experienced employment law attorney near you.
