Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Signed Job Offer Rescinded
Summary:
I received a job offer from a high profiled company. I physically drove to their campus and signed the offer and agreed that I would start in 2 weeks. We also discussed my benefits. One week later, they rescinded my offer. I don't know the exact reason why they did but they ''implied'' that they got additional information on me from a past employer saying that I was not qualified.
Question: Should I take legal action or forget about this? If yes, leave me contact information so we can discuss this further.
Additional information (if you have time):
-This a pretty big company.
-I received another offer at a different company (also big) but I declined that offer to accept this one. When the company rescinded my signed offer, I tried accepting the other offer but it was already closed.
-Before the offer was rescinded, I went through several hours of setting up my user account and reading the online tutorials for the company in preparation for my first day of work.

Re: Signed Job Offer Rescinded
Most likely, this was an "at-will" position, meaning they could let you go at any time, even before you actually started. You may have a claim for lost opportunity, but more information would be needed.
More importantly, you may have a strong claim against the former employer for their statements to this new company.
You should speak with an attorney further, please feel free to contact me if you are in the San Diego area.
Yours truly,
