Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Id like to know if the following situation constitutes slander, and if it's illegal:
A co-worker frequently & blatantly lies to co-workers & managers that SHE can't get her work done because of me & other NAMED co-workers (all of us have worked here much longer than her).
But for years she has wasted hours each day taking extra breaks and chatting with people (esp me), even while were trying to work. Shes very loud and disruptive, and has to be the constant center of attention. She claims:
-- That Joe Blow never does his work & she as to do it.
-- That I take too much time off & she can't get her work done (she covers the phones in my absence, which is never excessive).
--That neither of our drivers ever helps her (move boxes, etc) & that they never do anything.
-- That everyone expects her to do their work for them.
I know of four times that she blamed me for not getting her work done. I was only reprimanded one time (in 2012) by the HR person, who coddles her and never believes the rest of us who complain. I dont know how many other times she has lied about me, or if anyone else has gotten in trouble as a result of the lies I know she tells about them.
Thanks for your help.
