Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I started working at some company and I could not get paid for 4 months because I'm an intern.

And I started to get paid but its$1300 per month. I work 9 am - 6pm (1 hour lunch break) on weekdays. I cannot get help of health insurance because I am an intern.

However, $1300 per month is lower than minimum salary which is defined at California governement site,"Effective January 1, 2008, the minimum monthly salary for sheepherders will be $1,422.52."

Is it legal to pay lower than state minimum salary it's because I am an intern?

I don't know any sheepherders who work 9-6 with an hour off for lunch. So that law does not apply to you. $1,300/mo sounds like minimum wage at $8/hr. for 20 days per month. Interns and trainees can be paid less for a certain amount of time, but not indefinitely. So it sounds like you are being underpaid, or will be shortly, but not by much. Your best bet is to contact the Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Labor Standards Enforcement, either on the web or at a local office, and have them review the situation with you. If you are being paid less than minimum legal pay, they will then help you file a claim.
