Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I am straight commission. My employer charges back my commission when a deal unwinds, but if I have no commission made for this pay period can he give me a $0 paycheck?

No. In no case may an employer pay less than state mandated minimum wage for hours worked by an employee. There is no such thing a free labor.
