Re: sudden change in hourly wages
Generally, an employer can change an employee's wages prospectively, by informing the employee of the new wage rate. If the employee continues to work, there is an implicit agreement to accept the new wage. On the other hand, an employer may not change wages retroactively; the agreed upon wage must be paid for all hours worked. There are exceptions to this general rule, however, such as the existance of a contract defining wage payments for some fixed period, or if the employee relied upon wage representations to leave other employment. You should consult with an employee rights attorney in your area for advice on your individual situation.
