It sounds like the labor commissioner awarded you money for back wages and perhaps penalties. Wrongful termination goes to a different set of principles -- you were discriminated again, you were terminated for whistleblowing, you had a written contract for a specific term, you had an implied employment agreement not to be fired except for good cause, etc.

Jobs in CA are generally at will, which means you could quit or be fired at any time for any reason or no reason, except illegal reasons. Also, some statutes of limitation might have run on your wrongful termination issues. I encourage you to speak with an attorney if you believe your situation fits into any of these categories.
