Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Summer camp employment
I run a summer arts camp in California. The teachers are independent contractors who come and teach according to their own methods using materials supplied by me. They work during set hours, four days a week, Monday through Friday, during the months of June and July, and two weeks in August. Does the IRS recognize this as a legitimate use of an independent contractor, or would they say I need to hire my teachers as regular part-time employees. Or is this a gray area?
