Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Suspended!!!!

I have been employed by this Restaurant Company for about 8 Months and have never been considered a ''bad employee'' or written up for any sort of Company violation of policy. Over this past weekend, the owner of the Company went to Las Vegas. On Friday evening he requested that $4000.00 dollars be wired to him via Western Union. On Saturday he requested an additional $3000.00 I had to obtain the currency from the three restuarants that he owns and, of course, the Managers at these restaurants wanted to know why I was taking the cash from their safe. Tne Controller of the Company had no knowledge of this transaction until the following Monday when I informed her. I was never told that this was to be kept confidential. I believe it was assumed by the owner that I would keep quiet. Anyway, the Owner called me on Monday morning to inform me that I've been suspended immediately. He did not tell me of the length of this suspension or if it will be paid or unpaid. Where do I go from here??????

Re: Suspended!!!!

As a general matter, employees in California are "at will" employees which means they work for their employers at their own will and their employers employ them at their own will. Which means absent a contract or policies and procedures to the contrary an employer may fire or suspend employees liberally so long as it is not done because of race , gender or age.

I would need more information about your specific job to advise you specifically on your suspension. Feel free to contact me-Martin
