Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I just got suspended from work, but my district manager did not give me the reason as to why this action was taken. They said they needed to further investigate an LP issue. I asked several times what is there to investigate, and no one wants to give me any information. This happened on wed. Aug. 26th, I still dont know whats going on. It dont seem right to me. Do I have the legal right to know why I would be suspended from work before that action is taken? Please help answer this for me.

Thank you

Kimberly Wheeler

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as "due process" rights in private employment. The employer does not have to tell you why you were suspended or what they are investigating. You do, however, have the legal right to review your personnel file, to see what they have placed in it. But you cannot demand to see it when you want to. It must be done by appointment. By then, chances are, you will either be reinstated or terminated. Sometimes, employees never learn the reason for the suspension or termination. This is what we call "at-will" employment, which means either party to an employment relationship can terminate it at their will. And they don't have to say why.
