Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Tape Recording a Meeting
Is it legal for a supperior to tape record you without your knowledge? Or set you up to be demoted? Would either of these situations be a corperate or personal problem?

It is probably illegal for the employer to tape-record you. As far as "set up" for demotion, it depends what the situation was -- but you might be able to sue for defamation of character if the reasons they are using for your demotion are false.

California law prohibits the recording of a conversation where you reasonably expect that no one else would hear it. It is a criminal misdemeanor, with a fine of, I believe, $2,500 per instance.
