Terminated and so was healthcare benefits
I had healthcare coverage thru my employer, was terminated on 3/26/08 and given my final check. Today, 4/08/08 I received a letter from my healthcare provider, stating my coverage was terminated as of 4/01/08. I was shocked, as I thought the termination date may be 4/15/08 or 4/30/08. Did my former employer have an obligation to notify me that my healthcare coverage was going to terminate in 5 days? It seems I would have some sort of rights, as I was not informed of the healthcare termination date, even if I had been, 5 days isn't enough time to secure COBRA coverage. Not only do I not have healthcare coverage, my 10 year old daughter doesn't either. This seems so wrong, I have a hard time believing this is permitted to be done.

The existence of your medical coverage after termination would depend on the language in your employer's insurance policy. Most policies will drop a terminated employee within days of separation. If you are a COBRA covered employee then your employer should have provided you with the info on COBRA coverage.
