Termination due to divorce

My son-in-law works for my business and is involved in a nasty divorce with my daughter. He has made several false statements about our family that are serious in nature.Can we terminate him without leagal liability.

Unless he has an employment contract he is an at will employee per CA law and can be fired with or without cause.
