Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Termination of Job for being late while providing Vol. Fire Services
My employer is currently looking into terminating my employment for being 1 hour late while I was on a vehicle accident assisting with extraction and medical aid to a patient. Are there any laws protecting volunteer firefighters from diciplinary acitons while performing duties associated with firefighting in california.

Re: Termination of Job for being late while providing Vol. Fire Services
Yes. See CA Labor Code Sect. 230.3, which says that an employer may not discharge or discriminate in any manner aginst an employee for taking time off toperform emergency duty as a volunteer firefighter. Caution - get a copy of Sect. 230.3 and read the whole thing because there are exceptions. If you do get fired and you worked in L>A> County, you may wish to call our office.
