Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Termination

I was recently fired and was not told. I understand that I was an 'at will' employee. so, i know that i coul dbe fired at any time with any cause, yet i thought that employers were required to tell an employee that they were being terminated. in fact, i even thought that the employee must be ont he clock to do so. this is what i had been told by other managers, etc. i don't believe that the terminationwas necessarily wrongful , but i was under the impression that employers had to notify the employee in california.

Re: Termination

How did you know that you were fired if they didn't tell you. Obviously, you probably showed up for work and then they told you. You do not necessarily have to be at work to be notified of your termination.

Re: Termination

There is no legally required method of giving an employee notice of their termination. Your final wages are due immediately at the time of termination. If there was a delay in receiving your final check, you can file claim with the Labor Board: http://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/DistrictOffices.htm
