Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Termination

I worked for a very large Entertainment Co. I injured my back while at work. The position I held when I injured my back, was eleminated due to cost. The Co. moved me into another position which required lifting of boxes and bending and reaching on shelfs both high and low, making my injury worse and inturn I couldn't perform the duties of my position and was terminated because of that. Knowing I had a severe back injury that required spinal fusion surgery, and moving me into a position where lifting and bending were the majority of my duties, and then terminating me because I couldn't perform the functions of my position in a timely fashion, should the company have terminated me and if not, what recourse do I have.
