Threats of physical harm from executive management...

After a 30% layoff yesterday, the remaining employees were told by the CEO today that if they disclosed any information about the company to an outside source the would:

1. ''Have their legs broken''

2. ''Tongues cut out''

3. ''...You know what the third option is''

Since the layoffs there are creepy looking people patroling our offices and parking lot. The company hasn't told us if they are security guards or anything. Basically, I'm afraid to go to work. Many of my co-workers feel the same way.

Another issue is that I approached an executive about six weeks ago and informed him that I needed to take another job unless I could get better pay or a bonus to help with a tax debt. He told me and my manager I should NOT to take the new job because the company would be able to help me with a bonus, loan or stock buy-back deal. After several weeks of confirmation that help was on the way I was then informed that the company would not help at all. Because I was lied to, I lost the oppertuinity to change jobs and have my tax debt (over $15,000) cleared.

it sounds like the promises made were too vague to be considered a contract so you are likely out of luck

How bizarre!! Are you and your co-worker's genuinely frightened from the language or is it genuinely accepted as hyperbole? If you are effected emotionialy to the point in which you be benefited by professional help, you may have a worker's compensation stress claim and a civil suit for intentional infliction of emotional distress. You may also have a civil suit in promissory estoppel if you relied upon your employer's promises to your detriment and if it was reasonable for you to rely upon the promises or it it would be reasonably foreseeable that you would rely upon the promises.
