Time Limit on Severance Pay?

Upon being terminated by a company, how long do they have to send a severance check? Should that be part of the final payment on the last day of work? If so, are there any penalties for not paying 2 weeks severance within a certain period if they made a verbal and written agreement to do so? Thanks for any information.

You are not entitled to severance pay in California unless you have a written contract stating they will pay severance pay to you.
