Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I told my boss I would be in late due to an appointment. when I got here he said he felt like I was job hunting and if I gave two weeks notice it was not enought time to replace me and have me train a new person so he is going to give me a months notice to get another job and he's going to replace me. Can he do that?

Assuming there is no written contract, yes, he can. In California, employment is at-will, which means an employer can terminate an employee at any time for any reason or no reason, with or without notice. Likewise, an employee can quit at any time, with or without notice. He may consider it generous to give you a month's notice so you have time to find another job, and he is obligating himself to pay you for that time period. But you are not required to stay for the full month and can leave at any time--you would, of course, be paid only for the time you actually remain.

(If there is a written contract, then whatever the contract says would control.)
