Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Training Reimbursement

My previous employer is requesting training reimbursement totaling over $1800. It was a week of training that was not part of the initial hiring agreement but that was required after I started employment. In the employment contract I sign a document which include a clause stating that I would reimburse the company for training if I left before a years time. I left the company in September of 1999 do to conflicts of interest, only 6 weeks after my hire date. Is there any way I can avoid having to pay for training in which I did not foresee nor did I request?

Re: Training Reimbursement

About the only thing you can do is just ignore the request for payment. Although they like to threaten, most of the time they do not follow through with an actual attempt to collect the money through the courts.
