Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Travel time compensation

My employer has me travel from time to time over 200 miles for meetings. This travel is done in my personal vehicle for which I'm reimbursed milage.

As an hourly employee should I be compensated for travel time beyond my normal commute time (home to office).

Also since this meeting attendance is mandatory as an hourly employee should I be compensated for the entire time I'm out of town on this company business?

Thank you for your response.

Re: Travel time compensation

I am not entirely sure. Usually, the time to get to the worksite, even if off premises, is probably not compensable, but you may want to look at a case called Morillion v. Royal Packing Co., 22 Cal. 4th 575 (2000). This case involved agricultural workers, so it may not be applicable, but it's a starting point. On your second question, I don't think you are entitled to pay for all the hours you are away.
