Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Can't Trust Anyone

I started working in 1998 for a friend who was struggling to keep his business afloat. He agreed to pay me $12.00 an hour but often I would not get paid and at the end of the year I was only paid $5000.00. In 1999 I was paid $16000.00. In the year 2000 he agreed to pay me 1/3 of the profits before overhead which lasted for about 5 months at which point he stopped paying the 1/3 of the profits and then within 3 weeks he shut down the business. He then moved his business to another location. My question is do I have legal grounds for suing?
