Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Unauthorized Paycheck Deduction

I quit my job on a monday. My paycheck was directly

deposited into my bank account on friday. The next

week, my employer made an automatic withdrawl of my

entire paycheck with no notification to me. I heard

through an ex-coworker that they say I owe them money

that I do not! Is this legal?

Re: Unauthorized Paycheck Deduction

Your employer may not keep wages that you have already earned unless he has a judgment or other court order attaching your wages. You can contact the California Labor Commissioner's office in your area, and they will help you without any charge to you.

THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE LEGAL ADVICE, BUT RATHER A GENERAL DISCUSSION OF YOUR RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS IN THIS MATTER.
