Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Unemployment Appeal - do I have

I worked as a consultant (wages reported on IRS 1099 form) for a company. The company is incorporated in CA and I worked in CA.

Last winter my boss told me that he wanted me to work for an affiliated company in Texas as a regular employee (wages reported on a W-2). I did not want to relocate to Texas, but my boss told me that he didn't see how I could stay on working in my current position as a consultant in CA. In other words, if I wanted to stay employed, I had no choice but to work from TX.

For 4 months I did a weekly commute to and from TX. Finally I quit the job. I filed for unemployment but EDD denied my claim.

Since my position was essentially relocated out of state, do I have any grounds for an appeal? How do I show that I voluntarily quit for ''good cause.''

Thanks for your help.

Re: Unemployment Appeal - do I have

You can appeal the decision of the EDD at the unemployment appeals board that every district has. It's a relatively simple and free or very low-cost procedure.
