Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Unemployment Benifits

Why can't I receive unemployment benifits when I was laid off of a part-time job in which they took out money for unemployment ins. but now say I MUST look for full-time work in order to recieve any of the benifit money they took from my part-time job. I can't accept a full-time position right now due to my step-children, & I don't want to lie, nor waste an employers time. They took the money from a part-time position.... I should be able to be covered while looking for part-time work right?

Re: Unemployment Benifits

Just to clarify, you did not have any money withheld for unemployment insurance, but for disability. Unemployment insurance is paid for entirely by employers and is just that, insurance, not an accrued benefit.

While you are required to look for full-time work in order to qualify for benefits, there is nothing to prevent you from also looking for (or accepting) part-time employment.
