Legal Question in Employment Law in California
unfair business practices
I work at a non-profit organization that recieves their funding through federal, county and city grants/social service programs. the problem is with the president of the organization. He has hired his daughter and now son-in- law to work at our organization but they are under his supervision.(nepitism) they leave work early, they don't complete their work, they get special priviledges and when you question anything about them that even pertains to work the president of the company threatens to fire you or starts yeling at you and defaming you to other employees.many of us are afraid to say anthything becuse we know he will railroad us out of our jobs.Plus the son-in- law has no previous experiance in the social work field or even education but he was brought in at a high pay rate (He gets paid more than the rest of us.) even though the rest of the staff has years of experiance and educational degrees in our field. Is this illegal? what can I do I can't deal with the stress this brings me.

Re: unfair business practices
Other than seeing an inequity in pay and work ethic, how does it affect your doing your own job? For instance, if you counted on the daughter to do something that you would otherwise do and it doesn't get done, there's an immediate impact. If there's no direct effect, then you might think about continuing to do your job and not theirs. On the other hand, if the funds used for these persons are being wasted and therefore the people you serve are being deprived of funding because of this, then you might take further steps to inform the funding agencies or the board of directors of the mismanagement of the funds. Of course, you'd have to be prepared for the repercussions.
