Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Unfairly terminated?
About two months ago I was laid off from a job. I had done everything that my employer asked me to do even though he promised me other opportunities to get me to come on board. I was doing a lot of accounting when my degree was in computer science. He told me that I would eventually work my way into programming for the company. When he let me go he told me that the company was having financial problems (which I knew was true) and he couldn't afford to keep me around. This would have been fine but I found out he hired his girlfriend the next day for the same job. I am angry and want to know if he is legally allowed to do that to me. I have never gotten fired and feel really cheated. Please help me.

Unfortunately, hiring a girlfriend instead of keeping you is not discrimination. If, however, the employermade representations to you before you started working there about the company's stability, you may have a claim. If want further help, e-mail me at the address given or call at 805/641-6600.
