Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Unpaid services

I was hired (as an indep't contractor) to do case studies for later

submittal by company. I spent lots of time, energy & gas to conduct

studies. I gave proofs of studies (pictures, papers filled in by

models) but the co. decided that this way is not really profitable for

them. They requested the appliance back from everybody & claim

that in my case not enough studies were made, which is not true.

On paper I do have proof that they had received those. As I was

not an employee - I also signed form that I was not entitled for

unemployment/medical & so on, I assume that the Labor Board

would not be able to help me. If I take them to Small Claim, what

are my chances to win it? Do they sometimes judge at least--name

removed--

partial amount if they see that the co. just used me & now they do

not wish to pay? (I know that Small Claim is--name removed--''solo

deal'', no

lawyers are allowed. Lawyers that I asked so far were not

interested in the case as I only seek below $2,000. Or is there--

name removed--

way to sue them & compensate the lawyer as well? I am not willing

to invest more money into the case unless I already collect.

Thank you.

Re: Unpaid services

You're seeking quantum meruit -- i.e. the value of your time. Bring proof to small claims of pay for other work you've done. Good luck.
