Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My usual work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sometimes I have to work overtime (for which I am paid) starting at 3:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Someone calls me at 2:00 a.m. to be there at 3:00 a.m. Occasionally, my phone is turned off or downstairs and I don't get the call at 2:00 a.m. to come in early. When that happens, I given a written reprimand. Is that legal? Am I obligated to work overtime? Do they have to give me a certain amount of lead time when I do have to work overtime?

It is entirely legal. Bad business? Poor employee management? Yes, but there is no law against that.
