vacation

is it manditory that there is a written policy to the issue of vacation. When terminated I was not paid the vacation time i had earned.

There is no law that requires that employers put their vacation policies in writing or that paid vacations be provided at all. If a vacation policy exists, oral agreements are sufficient, and can be proven by witness testimony and past practices.

If you believe you are due some vacation pay, your best option is to file a claim with the California Labor Commissioner and ask for waiting time penalties, as well.
