Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I voluntarily resigned, turned in two resignation letters, one to my direct supervisor, and one to another office official representative, and kept a copy for myself. I gave two-weeks notice to my employer. I recently discovered that my former employer has me listed as Involuntarily Terminated. I have reason to believe that my former boss purposefully reported my status as Terminated thinking I wouldn't find out, and has done the same to other former coworkers of mine. I would like to take action outside of simply calling HR to correct the error. What should I do?

Hello.

If you have evidence that your employer is spreading false rumors about you, you might have a legitimate claim for defamation/slander that can be brought in court. Of course, evidence of the fact that these rumors are in fact spread by the source you are suspecting is important.

Thanks,
