Legal Question in Employment Law in California

voluntary demotion and reinstatement

i returned to work after serious illness and was reinstated in my original position. i voluntarily demoted myself when a position opened up because the company could not find someone else for the position and i needed some time to readjust. i made a verbal agreement with my immediate supervisor that i would return to my original position when i was feeling up to task. i informed her that i was ready for my old job when i felt ready. at that time, a position like my old one opened up. i was not given the job. do i have any rights and if so, what are they?

Re: voluntary demotion and reinstatement

probably not. it sounds like the agreement was too uncertain to be enforced.
