Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Wage Garnishing

The company I work for provides housing or if we choose to live else where, we are provided per diem in the amount of 810.00 a month. I gave my 2 week notice, and was informed that because I am leaving in the middle of the month, the place we stay at charges 55 dollars a day instead of 27 dollars a day. I was told I would have to pay the difference for staying here. It was never told to us that we had to leave at the end of the month, I am under no lease agreement with the place I stay at, and have never signed anything saying that I would pay a higher rate if I terminated in the middle of the month. Can they garinsh my wages for the difference? The rent is taken care of by the company, so I never pay a dime to stay here.

Re: Wage Garnishing

If the deduction the company has made in your wages was never authorized by you, it may well be an unlawful deduction.
