Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Whistle Blower harassed by managers

I am a 5 1/5 yr. employee, stock holder, past co.store manager with performance awards, and am currently now in sales as a top performer. Recently, I wrote our Loss Prevention dept. regarding what I felt were unethical activities on the part of the store manager (having been in that position). Immediatley after the interview of the manager by LP, a direct harassment campaign with instructions to ALL department managers (per my dept. manager) was given by the store manager and directed specifically at me.

My letter requested the confidentiality of the report due to the potiential of a hostile working environment if the manager found out. LP did not give me that privilage and in fact used my name during a taped interview with the store manager. This manager has a history of harassing employee's over the age of 40 but has never been repremanded for it. What are my rights in the private sector, if any for reporting a loss and now being harassed by the manager.

Re: Whistle Blower harassed by managers

It is called a retaliatory action and is illegal. You should talk to the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) in the blue pages. There will be posters somewhere in your office with numbers and information.
